General Motors Canada says it will slash its workforce by more than half by 2014 as part of a broad restructuring plan released by the company today, the Canadian Press is reporting.

The troubled company's Canadian arm will reduce its hourly workforce from 10,300 currently to 4,400 over the next five years.

The company will reduce its dealer network by 42 per cent, from 705 today to about 400 by the end of next year.
