GO Transit buses are operating as usual Monday after the union representing drivers and Metrolinx agreed to a tentative contract agreement.

The sides reached a last-minute deal late Sunday as drivers were poised to walk off the job at midnight.

GO Transit said its 40,000 daily commuters can expect normal service Monday.

Details of the tentative agreement aren't being released. Employees will vote on the proposed deal later this week.

The workers are represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union.

Meanwhile, bus drivers and mechanics in York Region Transit's southeast and north divisions walked off the job Monday at 4 a.m. after their union and employers – Miller Transit and First Canada – failed to reach a new contract.

Drivers and mechanics for five Viva express routes are also on strike.
