A man is dead after an altercation at a Hamilton house party early Sunday morning ended in a triple shooting, police say.

Officers responded to a report of multiple shots fired on Highway 6, near Concession Road 6 East by the Burlington border, at approximately 4:30 a.m.

Police said they found one victim with non-life-threatening injuries near the scene. The adult male victim reported he had been shot at a party which took place at a nearby short-term rental, according to police.

“Upon arriving at the property, police learned at least two other victims had fled the scene and one later succumbed to his injuries in a car nearby,” police said in news release issued Sunday, adding that investigators are trying to identify the victim and locate next of kin.

An adult female victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The crime scene spans almost a kilometre and includes the short-term rental property, a bullet-riddled Mercedes-Benz on the side of the road where the man was found dead and a nearby gas station where abandoned vehicles were also located. Shell casings were found at each location, police tell CTV News Toronto.

All the victims, including a woman who was not shot but sustained injuries following the altercation, are from the Greater Toronto Area.

Approximately 60 people attended the party and police said investigators are now interviewing witnesses to understand what happened.

No suspect description is available at this time, police said.

Highway 6 was closed in both directions near Concession Road 6 East and Concession Road 7 East but has since reopened. Halton police and OPP are assisting in the investigation, police said.
