Three people were sent to hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Mississauga Wednesday night.

It happened at Britannia Road and Bidwell Trail at around 8 p.m.

According to Peel police, the two vehicles -- a Honda Civic and a Dodge -- collided in the intersection. The Civic ended up against a pole.

The three people who were in the Civic were taken to hospital. The driver, who suffered minor injuries, was released shortly afterwards. A female passenger suffered serious injuries and a male passenger suffered life-threatening injuries, Const. Mark Fischer said in an update provided at the scene.

The three victims are said to be a couple and their son who is in his 20s.

Three people who were in the Dodge when it crashed were not injured.

Fischer said it was too early in the investigation to determine if speed or distracted driving contributed to the collision.
