Two people are in custody after police raided a suspected drug lab in Pickering on Friday night.

After executing a search warrant at 925 Bayly Street in Pickering, Durham Regional Police arrested two suspects and say production charges are pending.

Sgt. Brent Hill, of the RCMP, confirmed to CP24 that the home was being used as a meth lab.

Hill called the items in the home 'sophisticated' pieces of equipment that would most likely be found in a chemistry lab.

"It is a make-shift lab in a residential area and that is what makes it dangerous," Hill said.

"These chemicals are highly toxic."

Emergency crews were seen in Hazmat gear as they dismantled the lab Friday night.

Neighbour Charlene Meecham told CP24 she was shocked to learn that a meth lab was operating next door.

"This is a really really well-respected community (with) a lot of working families," she said.

"There are always kids out playing … this comes as complete shock for this community."
