MONTREAL -

A grieving Ontario woman has confirmed that her son is one of two people who have died in a plane crash near Quebec City.

The woman, who did not give her name, said in a brief telephone interview today that her son Jessie Barrie died when the Piper aircraft went down in a wooded area.

The two survivors of the crash are in critical condition in a Quebec City hospital.

Barrie's mother, who lives in eastern Ontario, refused to identify the three other people who were on board but said they do not include her husband Bill, to whom the plane was registered.

The Piper aircraft took off from a small airport in Arnprior, Ont., and stopped in Quebec City to refuel before continuing to Saint John, N.B.

It crashed in bad weather about 65 kilometres southeast of the provincial capital just after taking off around 5 a.m.
