An 18-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a car in Brampton early Wednesday morning.

The man was struck in the northbound lanes of Rutherford Road, just north of Steeles Avenue, at about midnight.

The car, which sustained damage to its front end and a smashed windshield, remained at the scene.

Peel Regional Police said the pedestrian was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital, where he was being treated for a head injury.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Road closures are no longer in effect.

No charges have been laid.
