The gun used in Monday's shooting on a TTC bus was found near the crime scene on Tuesday morning, police say.

A 17-year-old boy is recovering from a bullet wound to the hip after getting into a fight with two men at the back of the bus. Police say the suspects also pistol-whipped the victim.

Police made a perimeter around a large swath of the Oakwood Avenue and Vaughan Road area while they searched for the suspects. The victim has described one of the subjects as having dreadlocks and wearing a white tam-style hat.

Police are appealing to the suspects to turn themselves in. Toronto Mayor David Miller has also repeated his call for a ban on handguns.

This is the fourth violent incident on Toronto's transit system in a month. Earlier this month, two teens were shoved into the path of a subway train at Dufferin Station and someone was stabbed at Wilson station. Another man was shot at Osgoode station in late January.

The bus involved in yesterday's shooting was fitted with security cameras and police are currently examining the images.

TTC chair Adam Giambrone says the organization is always evaluating its security needs, but the transit system remains a safe way for Toronto residents to get around.
