A 15-year-old Ajax student faces weapons charges after a boy was seen at Notre Dame High School with a handgun tucked into his pants' waist band, underneath his shirt.

Police initially received a call for an "armed person" in the area near Notre Dame and J. Clarke Richardson Collegiate high schools about 1 p.m.

The high schools, which are located next door to each other at the corner of Rossland Road and Harwood Avenue, were placed under lockdown.

There were several police cruisers on the scene, including a tactical support unit, whose presence is mandated by police protocol during a lockdown situation, says Van Rooy.

Durham Regional Police arrested the suspect without incident. They recovered a Glock-style pellet gun from the suspect's gym bag.
