Three men face murder charges after a 32-year-old inmate was beaten to death at the Don Jail over the weekend.

Toronto resident Jeff Munro, 32, was found unconscious with obvious signs of trauma on Saturday evening. Police were called at about 7:50 p.m. and Munro was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterward.

In a news release, police said an autopsy on Sunday showed that Munro died from blunt impact to the face. Investigators haven’t said where the attack took place or why the victim was in jail.

However, the victim’s mother contends he should have been in a psychiatric facility, not a jail with violent prisoners. Christine Munro says her son wasn't charged with a violent crime and suffered from a mental illness.

Troy Victor Campbell, 24; Osman Sarikay, 22; and Kevin Andre Veiro, 21; are charged with first-degree murder. They are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
