Toronto could have it's own version of the "chunnel" -- the underwater tunnel linking England and France.

The Toronto Port Authority is now considering building a 120 metre link to the mainland under Lake Ontario. Currently, there's 150-seat ferry that goes to the Island airport.

With the idea of a bridge long dead, a pedestrian tunnel is now on the table. The Toronto Star reports the project could cost up to $40 million dollars.

No formal request to build a tunnel has been made. Currently, the ferry is a 90 second ride.
