TORONTO - Toronto FC acquired Kyle Davies on Thursday from the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for fellow defender Dasan Robinson.

The move came just before Major League Soccer's roster freeze, which runs through the rest of the regular season and the MLS Cup playoffs.

"We are acquiring a young central defender with leadership experience and I feel Kyle will fit into our plans both now and long-term," Toronto FC head coach Aron Winter said in a release.

The 22-year-old Davies joined the Galaxy in May but did not make an appearance with the club. He began his career at Southampton in England in 2007 with the youth and reserve team.

The Danville, Calif., native then signed a contract with the MLS, joining Real Salt Lake in 2009. He was later traded to FC Dallas in April of that year but was waived by the club prior to joining the Galaxy.

Davies captained the U.S. team at both the 2009 CONCACAF under-20 Championship and the 2009 FIFA under-20 World Cup.
