Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a serious two-vehicle crash in Pickering that sent one person to hospital in critical condition.

The crash, involving a Hummer and a Hyundai car, occurred at Highway 7 and Salem Road shortly after 1 a.m.

OPP said the car was travelling north on Salem Road when it entered the intersection and was struck by the eastbound Hummer.

Salem Road is controlled by a stop sign at Highway 7, police said.

Each vehicle contained two people.

The male driver of the car was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The car's female passenger and the Hummer's occupants were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

OPP continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Highway 7 reopened shortly after 6:20 a.m.
