A new report indicates teens looking for summer work may have a tough time this year, especially in Ontario.

The latest Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey says Ontarians between the ages of 15 and 24 have a jobless rate higher than 17 per cent.

That's well above the national average of 14.8 per cent, and double Ontario's unemployment rate for adults. At this time last year, Ontario's youth had an unemployment rate of 13 per cent.

About 19,000 jobs were lost by people between the ages of 15 and 24 years old in March across Canada.

However, there may be help on the way from Queen's Park to get young people back to work. In the recent budget, the province included a plan to create more than 100,000 summer jobs over the next two years.
