CORUNNA, Ont. - An Olympic torchbearer received a surprise proposal Thursday while carrying the flame in southwestern Ontario.
Sara Bergami was running with the torch in Corunna, near Sarnia, as scores of people cheered when suddenly her boyfriend, Luca Bertacchi, stepped out from the crowd.
Bertacchi, a photographer for Vancouver's Olympic organizing committee, whispered something in her ear and then dropped down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage.
The couple are both from Italy and Bertacchi is working for the organizing committee on contract.
Although her exact words aren't known, Bergami hugged her boyfriend and smiled after he popped the question.
The Olympic torch is tracing a route from Windsor to London today before it takes a rest on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
