TORONTO - Aid organization Doctors Without Borders says Montreal nurse Laura Archer is among three of its workers abducted in Darfur.

The kidnappings -- believed to be the first of westerners in Darfur -- took place late Wednesday in a rural area about 200 kilometres west of the city of El Fasher.

The aid agency says Archer was abducted along with Mauro D'Ascanio, an Italian doctor, and Raphael Meunier, a French field co-ordinator.

In Toronto, Doctors Without Borders spokeswoman Marilyn McHarg says the kidnapped Canadian is originally from P.E.I. but had been living in Montreal.

McHarg says staff were able to speak by phone with the abducted workers and got confirmation they were in good health and being treated well.

The agency says it's withdrawing all international staff as well as Sudanese staff not from Darfur, from projects in Darfur.
