MONTREAL - Montreal police have recovered the rental truck that contained Iggy Pop and the Stooges' equipment, but there is still no sign of what was inside.

The group lost their instruments and stage gear when the truck was swiped Monday after a concert in Montreal.

The Stooges scrambled Tuesday to borrow enough equipment to stage a show in Toronto on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said the truck was found empty Tuesday afternoon, abandoned several blocks from the hotel where it was stolen.

Police also indicated that most of the equipment was marked with serial numbers, making it difficult to sell.

Bassist Mike Watt bemoaned losing his longtime Gibson, but took solace that it went out on a high.

"Her last gig was smoking," Watt told the CBC. "Ig was going off and the Montreal people were pumped up."

The stolen items have been estimated to be worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The Stooges are in the middle of a tour with stops across Europe and North America.

The 61-year-old Pop is considered widely influential in the development of punk and heavy metal rock.
