PARIS - Rick Nash has been named Canada's captain ahead of the IIHF world hockey championship.

The Columbus Blue Jackets star will wear the 'C' when Canada opens the tournament Friday against Belarus.

The 26 year old from Brampton, Ont., is making his eighth appearance for Canada in international competition.

Andrew Ladd, Dion Phaneuf, Jason Spezza and Travis Zajac were named alternate captains.

The world championship runs April 29-May 15 in Bratislava and Kosice, Slovakia.
