A man driving through downtown Toronto was pulled over by police Saturday morning and quizzed about some questionable items in the car.
At least four gas masks were found along with compressors, bulletproof vest, shovels, an axe and a nail gun. The items have reportedly been seized.
The man was detained on Sherbourne Street, south of Gerrard Street, close to Allan Gardens, a park where hundreds of protesters spent the night. However, he was later released and does not face any charges in connection with the incident.
The young man told reporters afterwards that he is from Saskatchewan and that he came to Toronto to join the protest against the high-profile G20 summit.
He said he had the nail gun in case he needed to build shelter. He also said he often wears the bulletproof vest at night because he is afraid of gang activity.
