A Toronto man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after police say he attacked his landlord with an axe Friday morning.

Toronto police say Rallin Edward Lawes, 64, took several swings at his landlord’s head after letting the man in to collect a rent check around 9 a.m.

It happened at a residential building in the Bloor Street West and Dundas Street West area.

The landlord was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police say he’s lucky to be alive.

Lawes is set to appear in court Aug. 11.
