WHITBY, Ont. -- Police have charged 45 people and shut down dozens of marijuana grow-ops following an investigation in Durham Region, east of Toronto.

Investigators say 50 outdoor and 11 indoor grow operations were discovered during the drug probe, which began back in August.

They say some 4,500 plants were seized in the busts, along with five kilograms of dried marijuana, 15 grams of cocaine and $84,000 in cash.

Police say almost one-third of the plants were taken from a single house in Whitby, which is being held for investigation under proceeds of crime legislation.

The 45 accused, ranging from 15 to 61 years of age, face a total of 80 drug-related offences.
