Woman fatally struck, boy hurt in Mississauga CP24's Travis Dhanraj speaks with Peel police Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick after a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Mississauga Friday.

A woman is dead and her son is in hospital after both were struck by a vehicle in Mississauga late Friday afternoon.

According to police, the pair was struck as they crossed Cawthra Road north of Bloor Street at around 5:15 p.m.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boy was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Peel Regional Paramedic Services said.

There are currently conflicting reports on his exact age.

“He’s going to be OK,” Peel police Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick told CP24 Friday evening.

Fitzpatrick said investigators are still trying to establish why the two were crossing the street in the area when they were struck.

“It’s very early in the investigation at this point,” she said. “Sometimes vehicles can be travelling quite fast down this roadway.”

The area is currently closed as police continue to investigate.
