Man charged in fatal hit-and-run in Richmond Hill

York Regional Police have charged a man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that left a 70-year-old man dead in Richmond Hill Saturday.

Police said the elderly man was crossing Yonge Street south of Bond Crescent when he was struck by a northbound dark-coloured SUV around 7 p.m.

The man was rushed to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The driver fled the scene.

Police said Monday that a Richmond Hill man turned himself in to police on Sunday in connection with the incident. He also surrendered a 2009 black Ford Escape with front-end damage.

A 43-year-old suspect, identified as Darryl Sylver, has been charged with fail to remain causing death.
