All eastbound lanes of Highway 401 have reopened in Port Hope following a fatal collision involving a pedestrian, Ontario Provincial Police say.

Police say a male pedestrian was struck by an eastbound vehicle just west of Ontario Street around 2:45 p.m. He was declared dead a short time later.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

It’s not yet clear why the man was on the road.
