Two people have been transported to hospital in critical condition following a house fire in Brampton.

It happened on Thomas Street, northwest of Queen and Main streets, at around 7 p.m.

According to a tweet from Peel paramedics, two patients were transported to hospital in critical condition, suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. A third patient was treated at the scene.

Information on the genders and ages of the patients was not immediately available.

The fire has since been brought under control, Brampton firefighters said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Emergency crews remain at the scene.
