A former Vancouver psychiatrist has been banned from practising in B.C. or any other jurisdiction due to alleged sexual misconduct with a female patient, according to the professional regulator.
Dr. Tapash Chakraborty’s alleged misconduct occurred between 2019 and 2022, said a public notification from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia posted online Friday.
Chakraborty, according to a disciplinary citation, was facing allegations of “making remarks of a sexual nature and engaging in other communications of a sexual nature with the female patient” as well as “touching of a sexual nature, engaging in sexual intercourse, and other forms of physical sexual relations with the female patient.”
A disciplinary hearing was never held, and Chakraborty has since resigned his registration with the college. The psychiatrist agreed to enter an undertaking “never to reapply” for registration in B.C. or anywhere else and “never to provide any health therapeutic services in British Columbia or in any other jurisdiction,” according to the public notification form the college’s inquiry committee.
The agreement came into effect on Feb. 12, 2025.
“In considering that Dr. Chakraborty is no longer a CPSBC registrant and had agreed to provide the undertakings, the inquiry committee was satisfied that the disposition of this matter as outlined above was in the public interest,” it reads.
