A 67-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly “wielded a chainsaw” at people in Vancouver’s West End neighbourhood Wednesday, according to police.
The Vancouver Police Department said officers arrested the senior after responding to an alarming 911 call near Davie and Denman streets around 7 p.m.
“The man was yelling obscenities near a coffee shop patio when he allegedly turned on an electric chainsaw and began walking toward people,” the department said in a news release Thursday.
“Bystanders ran away, and no one was injured.”
Police said they located the suspect blocks away at Beach Avenue and Burnaby Street within minutes of the 911 call.
The B.C. Prosecution Service has since approved a charge of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose against David Meadows.
