This Saskatchewan town is preparing to host a new TV series

A new television series is coming to Indian Head, where historic landmarks could serve as filming locations. Wayne Mantyka has the story.

It’s been decades since North Star service stations vanished from the prairies. Now an original location has been restored in Indian Head for a television series called “Copperhill Road.”

“Our main set is a gas station built in 1937,” explained series creator Ryan Douglas. “We have restored it back to a gas station for the TV show, but it’s also a heritage property.”

“Copperhill Road” is described as featuring action like the Dukes of Hazzard, but instead of taking place in the Georgia backcountry — it’s set on the prairies.

“There will be a lot of stunts,” director of photography Clint Demasson explained. “There will be stunt drivers performing some pretty complex stunts in this show.”

The 13-part series will be filmed entirely in the province with an all-Saskatchewan cast and crew.

“It’s also really important to have crew from Saskatchewan, actors from Saskatchewan. We’re filming in a Saskatchewan town,” actor Glenn Lapointe told CTV News.

The Town of Indian Head hopes to benefit like the Town of Rouleau did with “Corner Gas.”

“Tourism spinoff as well,” community development officer Meagan McEwan noted. “People who want to come and see where the show was filmed. Want to see some of the classic locations that were featured.”

Funding for the television series is being finalized with production slated to begin next spring.
