Those heading downtown this weekend could face some delays as one of the city’s major throughways will be closed to traffic.

The Gardiner Expressway is closed in both directions between Carlaw Avenue and the Humber River. The closure went into effect shortly after 10 p.m. Friday.

The highway isn’t expected to reopen until about 5 a.m. Monday.

City officials say the road closure will make way for a scheduled fall maintenance work that will ensure the road remains safe throughout the harsh winter season.

Other road closures may also impact traffic this weekend.

On Sunday, the Avro Arrow replica aircraft will be relocated from Downsview Park to the International Centre on Airport Road in Mississauga.

As a result, police are warning that traffic is likely to be disrupted just before midnight along the following routes:

  • Northeast on Carl Hall Road to Chesswood Drive
  • North on Chesswood Drive to Champagne Drive
  • East on Champagne Drive to Alness Street
  • North on Alness Street to Steeles Avenue West
  • East on Steeles Avenue West to Dufferin Street
  • North on Dufferin Street to Langstaff Road
  • West on Langstaff Road to Keele Street
  • South on Keele Street to Highway 7
  • West on Highway 7 to Airport Road
  • South on Airport Road to Steeles Avenue West
  • West on Steeles Avenue West to Torbram Road
  • South on Torbram Road to Derry Road
  • East on Derry Road to Airport Road
  • South on Airport Road to the International Centre
