A 40-year-old man has been charged with assault after he allegedly attacked a parking enforcement officer who was in the process of writing him a ticket.

The Toronto Police Service parking enforcement officer was conducting his duties in the Forest Laneway and Doris Avenue area in North York at around midnight on Thursday.

Police say he was in the process of ticketing a van that was blocking a disabled ramp and partially blocking the fire route when he was approached by the owner of the van.

Following a verbal altercation, police say that the man assaulted the parking enforcement officer.

Jeffrey Wingrowich, 40, of Toronto, is charged with one count of assault and is scheduled to appear in court at Finch Avenue West on Oct. 20.
