A 31-year-old Toronto man has been charged following a hit-and-run in downtown Toronto earlier this week that left a 58-year-old woman dead.

The pedestrian was crossing Sherbourne Street mid-block, south of Dundas Street, at around 1 a.m. Wednesday when she was struck by a vehicle that subsequently left the scene.

She was rushed to hospital where she later died.

Police have yet to release the woman’s name, but a man purporting to be her son identified her as Suzanne Pac Wednesday morning.

On Thursday, police announced that the suspect vehicle - described as a four-door graphite lustre metallic 2012 Acura TL - was located with the help of Honda Canada and seized.

Information on where and when the vehicle was found was not provided.

In a release issued Friday evening, police confirmed that a suspect had been arrested.

Tomas Velazco Pinedo faces five charges, including impaired driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death, and dangerous driving causing death.

He is scheduled to appear in court Saturday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1930 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
