A wild police chase ended in a fiery crash in Halton region Tuesday night. It also resulted in the arrest of one man who police say stole the vehicle and then fled down the Queen Elizabeth Way.

Ontario Provincial Police noticed the pick-up truck as it travelled west on the highway in the reserved HOV lane, meant for vehicles carrying two or more passengers. Only one person was in the car and so the OPP started to pursue the vehicle.

After entering the vehicle's information in their system, police discovered the truck was reported stolen.

The driver of the vehicle evaded police by exiting off the highway at Guelph Line along North Service Road. That's when the driver lost control of the truck and struck an SUV, sending both vehicles off the road.

The pick-up truck burst into flames but police managed to arrest the suspected driver safely.

The female driver of the SUV was uninjured though she had to be helped out of her vehicle. The driver of the truck also escaped injury.

Police tell CTV News that the investigation into the incident will be led by both the Ontario Provincial Police and officers working for Halton Region. Halton police will look into the traffic accident while the OPP will investigate the stolen vehicle allegation and the police chase.
