A 15-year-old girl who died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Vaughan Saturday night has been identified.

CP24 has learned Tatiana Sousa was killed when the black Infiniti SUV she was travelling in left the roadway in an open area of north Vaughan.

The student council of Dante Alighieri Academy where Sousa went to school in North York tweeted condolences for her and another boy who died after the crash.

Sousa was pronounced dead at the scene after a vehicle was found in a wooded area about 20 metres off the roadway from Teston Road and Pine Valley Drive at about 9 p.m., York Regional Police said.

Another occupant of the vehicle, 16-year-old Joshua Ferreira, was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Four other occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from serious to life threatening.

Ferreira attended Chaminade College School in Toronto's Maple Leaf neighbourhood. Chaminade's principal, Tony Augello, was visibly distraught as he spoke to reporters Monday morning. He said the all-boys school "is a brotherhood."

"We look after each other."

He said Ferreira was a well-liked student in Grade 11 who will be missed. Several students at the school told CP24 that Ferreira was a happy, affable person.

CP24 has also learned that Tatiana Sousa's brother was with her in the vehicle when it crashed. He was injured and is recovering at St. Michael's Hospital.

In a statement, the Toronto District Catholic School Board says grief counsellors and social workers will be sent to Sousa and Ferreira’s schools on Monday to assist staff and students.

York Regional Police said on Sunday that Sousa and Ferreira were likely passengers in the vehicle.
