The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a 19-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his face during the course of his arrest in Etobicoke’s Jamestown neighbourhood on Tuesday afternoon.

The SIU says that at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, an undercover Toronto police officer was conducting an investigation in the area of Kendleton Drive, near Opal Court, southeast of Finch Avenue West and Albion Road.

The undercover officer had “an interaction” with two men outside a home on Kendleton Drive, the SIU says.

Both men were later arrested by a number of police officers at the scene.

One of the pair, a 19-year-old man, was later transported to Etobicoke General Hospital and treated for “serious facial injuries.”

The SIU says two subject officers and two witness officers have been designated as part of the investigation.

Two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the incident.

The SIU says it believe the arrests were witnessed by a large number of people in the neighbourhood and is asking witnesses to call the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is called to investigate any interaction between an Ontario police officer and a member of the public which leads to death, serious injury or an allegation of sexual assault.
