Ontario Provincial Police have identified a suspect wanted in connection with a police pursuit that ended with a rolled vehicle in York Region early Thursday morning.

Police said the man stopped and had a brief conversation with an officer at the spot check at Highway 400 and Essa Road at about 2 a.m. before he sped away.

OPP spokeswoman Const. Lisa McIntyre said the pursuit was called off at Canal Road due to safety reasons, but officers found the overturned and abandoned vehicle a short time later in a ditch next to the southbound off-ramp at King Road.

Police set up a perimeter and brought in canine units and helicopter to look for the man. Within the perimeter, police stopped vehicles to check for the suspect.

The unsuccessful search was called off at 8:30 a.m.

Police towed the suspect's vehicle to the Aurora OPP detachment for an examination.

A suspect, identified by police as 26-year-old Aklaesso Agba, of Mississauga, is wanted for aggravated assault on a police officer, flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Police believe Agba may be armed and dangerous, and say he should not be approached by members of the public.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 888-310-1122.
