Toronto police are trying to identify three males after an employee was pistol-whipped and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken during a heist at an armoured vehicle company in mid-April.

At a news conference Tuesday, hold-up squad Staff Insp. Mike Earl said the robbery occurred at an INKAS Security Services building on Signet Drive, near Finch Avenue West and Highway 400, early April 14.

The company is hired by the TTC and other clients to pick up and transport cash and receipts.

Police would not say how much cash was taken when two males robbed at least one employee at gunpoint and then fled in a getaway car driven by a third male.

One of the males was armed with a silver revolver and used it to strike a 36-year-old male employee in the face during the hold-up, which was filmed by surveillance cameras, Earl told reporters.

Earl said the company’s guards are armed, but the employee who was bound during the robbery was not armed.

"These gentlemen that work for the armoured car company are armed, so it does heighten our concern when you have armed bandits going into an armoured car company with guns, knowing that the people that work there have guns," Earl told reporters.

After the robbery, the two males fled in a newer model, charcoal grey Honda Accord driven by a third male, according to police.

The employee was taken to hospital to be treated for facial injuries.

Police said the two males who entered the building are black and in their mid- to late-20’s. Both were wearing dark clothing and were covering their faces. One man is about six feet tall, while the second man is shorter than six feet. Police have not released a description of the third male.

Earl would not explain how the suspects entered the building because he did not want to reveal details about the building’s security measures.

Since the robbery, investigators have been visiting buildings in the neighbourhood in their search for surveillance footage of the suspects.

Now, police are asking the public for help to identify and locate the suspects. Police released surveillance images of two of the three suspects at Tuesday’s news conference.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 416-808-7350 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
