TTC riders can look forward to less congestion at Union Station come Monday when the long-awaited second subway platform officially opens after years of construction.

The TTC has changed the station’s centre platform setup to a side platform configuration which means commuters will now use one platform to board Finch-bound trains on the Yonge line and a separate platform to access Downsview-bound trains on the University line.

The addition, according to the TTC, will double passenger capacity at the station.

The total price tag for the project and other improvements is estimated to be $137.5-million and has been funded by all three levels of government.

The TTC also says the new station design will provide easier access to the PATH.

TTC spokesperson Jessica Martin said additional signage and customer service representatives will be at the subway station Monday morning.

“We’ve handed out information packages last week to customers," Martin told CP24 sunday night.

The entire Union Station revitalization project is expected to be complete by the spring of 2015.
