Two people were taken to hospital with serious burns after a fire broke out at a home in Richmond Hill.

The fire broke at a home on George Street in the Yonge Street and King Road area around 3 a.m., Monday.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, however it sprang up again later in the morning, engulfing the home in flames, York Regional Police said.

Aerial images showed thick smoke billowing from the roof of the house as firefighters worked to get the blaze back under control around 8 a.m.

Several children live at the home, but all were safe, police said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. No damage estimate was immediately available.
