One person is dead and another is hurt following a two-vehicle accident in York Region near Bathurst Street and Highway 7.

A Chevrolet Cavalier and a Ford Explorer collided in the eastbound lanes of the highway, just east of Bathurst, at about 12:50 p.m. Monday. One of the vehicles rolled over in the collision, police say.

It's not yet known if slippery road conditions played a factor in the crash.

A man in one of the vehicles died of his injuries. The second victim was taken to hospital.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 7 remained closed between Bathurst and Hunter's Point Drive well into the evening, opening after 10:30 p.m. One westbound lane reopened at about 5 p.m., but traffic re-construction crews remained on the scene to gather evidence.
