TORONTO - Police and Ontario's Ministry of Transportation are combining forces to take on truckers.

Operation Corridor is looking to crack down on aggressive truck drivers and unsafe commercial vehicles on the province's highways.

The annual border-to-border safety initiative is focusing on high visibility and enforcement on major highways.

The initiative startedAnnual  Tuesday at 6 a.m. and runs for 24 hours.

During last year's campaign the OPP pulled over 1,769 commercial vehicles, laying a total of 159 speeding charges.

OPP Chief Supt. Bill Grodzinski says most commercial drivers are conscientious.
