An undercover police officer has a broken ankle after he was dragged while trying to stop a possible stolen vehicle.

Toronto police say the officer was doing surveillance near Keele Street and Finch Avenue in North York at 10.20 p.m. last night when he tried to stop a fleeing vehicle.

Somehow he became caught and was dragged a distance down the road, breaking his ankle. Police help the injured officer up from the curb and into an ambulance.

The driver, David Gamble, then lost control of the vehicle, hitting a parked van and crashing up on the sidewalk.

The 40-year-old Toronto man has been arrested. He faces up to ten charges.

Police say burglary tools were found in the van.
