TORONTO -- Canadian filmmaker Sarah Polley is setting her sights on documentary filmmaking.

The Oscar-nominated Polley, who won raves for writing and directing her first feature film, "Away From Her," will be part of a new program run by the Canadian Film Centre and National Film Board.

The six-month program is set to launch in January and will develop feature-length documentaries aimed at achieving commercial and critical success internationally.

Officials say Polley's proposed film, titled "The Stories We Tell", will explore the nature of memory and storytelling.

Other participants include Yung Chang, whose documentary "Up the Yangtze " won acclaim last year, and filmmakers Shelley Saywell and John Walker.

Program officials say the initiative will give filmmakers the time and resources to experiment with elements like shooting, editing, sound and image treatment. Projects will be considered for production at the end of the program.

Chang's film, "The Fruit Hunters", explores nature, obsession and commerce in the fruit underworld.

Saywell's film is called "Ghost Dance" and is billed as a rock 'n' roll film about a quest to find the meaning of an ancient aboriginal prophecy about restoring the ecological balance.

In "Seven Wonders," Walker follows seven of the world's master drummers as they pass on their secrets to 40 students.
