RIO DE JANEIRO -- Swim star Aurelie Rivard was chosen to carry Canada's flag in the closing ceremonies of the Rio Paralympics.

The 20-year-old from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., captured three gold medals in Rio, and set two world records.

Rivard, who was born missing her left hand, follows in the footsteps of Penny Oleksiak, the young swim star who carried Canada's flag in the closing ceremonies last month.

Rivard won the 50-metre freestyle, the 100 freestyle and the 400 freestyle, and finished second in the 200 individual medley.
