VANCOUVER -- Toronto Maple Leaf centre Dave Bolland was taken to hospital to undergo surgery for a leg injury he suffered Saturday night.

Bolland's left leg was cut early in the second period of Toronto's 4-0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.

He was injured when checked along the boards by Vancouver's Zack Kassian.

After the game Bolland was placed on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital.

Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said he didn't know the severity of the injury.
