Some good news – there are sports fans out there more miserable than Torontonians.

Toronto has been named the second most miserable sports city in North America, being beat only by woeful fans in Cleveland.

According to a new survey by a group of statisticians at data website the10and3.com, Toronto sports fans have suffered "soul-crushing" defeats as they watched their major professional sports teams perform poorly year after year.

"Toronto’s is a grinding, slow-burning torment, the result of year-after-year of losing seasons, poor decisions, and little expectation of future success," the analysis accompanying the survey read.

The group calculated the "misery score" by looking at each city's professional sports teams, including NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB teams, and the corresponding championship wins.

The last time the Leafs won the Stanley Cup was in 1967 and the last time the Blue Jays were at the top of their game was in the 1992 and 1993 seasons when they won the World Series back-to-back.

One saving grace for the city has been the recent success of the Raptors, who made the playoffs last year and have qualified for the post-season again this season.

"The Raptors may have been fun to watch in the high-flying Vince Carter years, but they were never a serious contender," the survey analysis read.

"This year, with a solid roster and celebrity fans like lint-rolling rap star Drake, the team is showing renewed signs of life."

Cleveland’s sports sorrows include not winning a championship since 1964.

“They’ve suffered through more shame, embarrassment and heartbreak than fans in any other city," the survey authors wrote.
