Owen Guo

Owen Guo is a freelance writer in Toronto. Born and raised in China, he spent nearly a decade as a reporter in Beijing, writing for the Financial Times and the New York Times, among others. Owen arrived in Canada as an international student in 2018 and became a Canadian citizen the same week Donald Trump was re-elected as U.S. president. He's also a contributing columnist for the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star, having written about immigration, North America's response to COVID-19 and Canadian identity. A news junkie and avid reader, Owen aspires to one day write a book on Canadian niceness. He speaks native Chinese and fluent English.
