LONDON, Ontario - Testimony has wrapped up at the trial of the man accused of killing eight-year-old Victoria Stafford.

Closing arguments will begin later this week.

Jurors at the Michael Rafferty trial have been told the defence will present its final arguments on Friday.

The Crown will close on Monday and the judge will deliver his charge to the jury on Tuesday.

Defence lawyer Dirk Derstine opened and closed his case today with a single witness -- a woman who was one of the last people to see Tori alive on April 8th, 2009 -- in hopes of casting doubt on the assertion that Tori had been abducted at random.

The grandmother, who can't be identified, said she saw a woman matching Terri-Lynne McClintic's description go into Tori's school in Woodstock, Ontario the day the girl was abducted.

But under cross-examination, the Crown questioned the grandmother's memory of the events of that day.

During her testimony in March, McClintic said she had not gone into the school.

McClintic also reversed her original contention that Rafferty killed Tori, testifying that she hit the girl with a hammer.

The 31-year-old Rafferty has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, sexual assault causing bodily harm and kidnapping.
