TORONTO - Former Blue Jay Vernon Wells hit a home run and drove in four runs and Dan Haren pitched eight solid innings as the Los Angeles Angels defeated Toronto 7-2 Wednesday.

Wells hit a two-run single against reliever Jesse Litsch in the sixth and hit a two-run homer, his 24th of the season, in the eighth against reliever Casey Janssen.

Angels' centre-fielder Peter Bourjos hit his 12th homer and tripled in a three-hit game as the Angels won their second in a row from the Blue Jays. Maicer Izturis had three hits and two RBIs for the Angels who outhit the Blue Jays 14-6.

Haren (16-9) held the Blue Jays to four hits, including Eric Thames' 11th homer of the season to lead off the sixth, and one run.

He ended the eighth inning when a line drive by Thames hit his left arm and deflected to second baseman Izturis who got the out at first. Haren went down in pain but walked off the field.

The Blue Jays scored a run in the ninth on a double by Kelly Johnson against Hisanori Takahashi.

The Angels who lost the first game of the four-game series will try to win the series on Thursday in the Blue Jays' final home game of the season.

Dustin McGowan (0-1) had a solid start as he continues his comeback from two shoulder surgeries.

He allowed five hits and two runs and struck out eight in five innings in his third start and fourth outing since returning to the majors for the first time since 2008.

Before the game, Blue Jays' third baseman Brett Lawrie of Langley, B.C., was a late scratch. He is out for the rest of the season after his right middle finger was fractured while taking ground balls in batting practice.

Bourjos did most of the damage against McGowan, scoring in the third after a leadoff triple and hitting a home run in the fifth.

The Angels (85-70) took the lead with a run in the third with a one-out single by Izturis through the drawn-in infield scoring Bourjos who led off with his 10th triple of the season.

The Blue Jays (78-77) loaded the bases in the fourth with a single by Edwin Encarnacion coming between a pair of two-out walks. But Haren ended the inning on a grounder to second by J.P. Arencibia.

Bourjos homered with one out in the fifth on a 2-0 fastball from McGowan. In the home fifth, Bourjos caught David Cooper's drive to centre with a fine catch.

In the Angels' two-run sixth, Torii Hunter's doubled with one out. Mark Trumbo hit a bloop double to shallow right. Hunter had to hold in case it was caught and reached only third base. During Trumbo's at-bat, Litsch thought he had picked off Hunter at second but he was called safe.

Alberto Callaspo was walked intentionally. Wells grounded a 2-2 sinker through the left side for a two-run single.

The Angels added three against Janssen in the eighth. After Wells scored two with his homer, Bourjos singled, stole second and scored on a single by Izturis.

Notes: Attendance at Rogers Centre was 17,784 .... With Lawrie a late scratch, Encarnacion moved from designated hitter to third base with Cooper coming in as DH. Lawrie was put on the 15-day disabled list. He batted .293 with nine homers and 25 RBIs in 43 games since making his major-league debut on Aug. 5. . ...Henderson Alvarez (1-2, 3.62 earned-run average) will start Toronto's final home game of the season Thursday and will face Ervin Santana (11-12, 3.40 ERA).
