Three teenagers have been charged after an alleged armed carjacking in Brampton earlier this month and another attempted one in Mississauga last week.
Peel police say on Jan. 16, a man was walking to his parked car in the area of Dundas Street East and Cawthra Road in Mississauga at 8:30 p.m.
Three suspects exited a vehicle that was parked directly beside the victim’s, pointed a gun at him and demanded his keys, police say.
Investigators say the victim threw his keys before the suspects allegedly pushed him to the ground, stole his cellphone and fled without stealing his vehicle.
Officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later parked next to another luxury vehicle and “believed that another carjacking was imminent.”
Police say three people were arrested and a replica firearm was found.
Further investigation revealed the suspect vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the month on Jan. 4 from the area of Gore and Castlemore roads in Brampton.
Police have now charged three 17-year-old males from Brampton with robbery and possession of stolen property.
The charges have not been tested in court and the youths cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
